On November 3 some of the members of St Andrew’s Church in Long Street, Devizes performed to a packed church a concert entitled Reflections On The First World War.
The aim was to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice and honour the memory of all those who gave their lives for our freedom.
The group of talented performers, under the stage direction of Jen Warren and the musical direction of Susan Braunton, created a concert of music from the era and war poetry linked by informative narrative.
There was a strong local influence on the script with many of the local war dead being mentioned and remembered by name.
The concert came to a climax with a two minutes' silence observed between the sounding of the Last Post and Reveille by guest trumpeter, Kelvin Nash.
Entry and refreshments were provided free and a retiring collection raised £311 for the Poppy Appeal.
