A MAN has been arrested after an elderly woman had her handbag stolen during a robbery in Corsham.

The victim, who is in her 80s, was alone in St Bartholomew's Church, in Church Square, at around 1pm on Friday when she was targeted.

She was approached from behind and pushed to the floor and her handbag was taken.

The woman wasn't seriously injured but was left shaken and suffered a bruised arm.

PCSO Shaun Redmond, from Wiltshire North Community Policing Team, said: "Luckily, the victim wasn't more seriously hurt, but this was still a shocking incident which has left people very concerned.

"If you know anything about what happened then we would urge you to contact police immediately."

A 21-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery, driving without due care and attention, and driving without insurance. He has been taken into custody at Melksham Police Station.
