A WOMAN from Calstone who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year has helped raise a total of £4000 to support other women living with the disease.

Ellie Chudleigh, 50, held a book sale on at her home and invited local residents to buy bags of books, tea and cake and home-made crochet book marks.

A total of £265 was raised for Aurora, a charity which supports women under 50 with breast cancer, bringing the charity's total to over £3000.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2017 and discovered Aurora after talking to my breast care nurse.

"The charity was set up by a female breast surgeon and a breast care nurse in Swindon. I attended a seminar they organised a year ago which put me in touch with other young women going through the same treatment as myself.

"I was really impressed by the support they offered and wanted to raise funds. Lots of local people kindly donated books so I was able to set up a virtual library with book on all subjects.

"Most people know of a loved one or friend that has or has had breast cancer at some point.

"It’s a real challenge for young women who are diagnosed as they often have young families or are busy with careers.

"Apart from the side effects chemo and surgery, it affects fertility and self-esteem in a big way. I’ve made some great friends through Aurora who I know will be forever friends."
