FIREFIGHTERS from Wiltshire and Hampshire battled a barn blaze in Pewsey on Sunday evening.
Crews were called to Pewsey Hill at 7pm after a barn measuring 30m x10m containing around 800 tonnes of straw went up in flames. Five fire engines initially attended, from Pewsey, Marlborough, Ludgershall, Devizes and Andover, supported by water carriers from Pewsey and Andover.
A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Over the evening the incident was downscaled, to a water carrier from Wilton and a crew from Amesbury, who in turn were replaced overnight by a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett and a crew from Melksham.
"The barn is being allowed to burn out under control, but a water supply was maintained on an adjacent tank of liquid fertiliser as a precaution.
"A crew from Pewsey went back to the scene this morning but has now come away, so the road has been reopened."
The road was closed for safety reasons as fire engines were on the road and visibility was poor.
