Fresh from hosting Live at the Apollo and another total sell out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Dane Baptiste brings his third smash hit show to Swindon Arts Centre at 8pm tonight.

Billed as original, provocative and exceptionally crafted, the new show is called G.O.D. (Gold. Oil. Drugs) and explores our worldwide pursuit of wealth, power and pleasure.

The London born stand-up made comedy history in 2014 as the first black British act to be nominated for a Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

He had enormous success with his debut stand up show Citizen Dane, completing two sold out runs at London’s Soho Theatre, with additional dates added due to phenomenal demand.

Dane has since written and starred in his own BBC sitcom series and made numerous other TV and radio appearances.

His second stand up show Reasonable Doubts enjoyed sold out audiences and critical acclaim at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe, with his first nationwide solo tour following in 2016.

This isn't his first visit to Swindon - Dane included the town in his 2016 tour, with Reasonable Doubt, when he told the audience that being the token gets you no respect from either sides of the colour lines and explained that with the advent of reality TV it seemed that no one wanted a regular career, everyone wanted to be famous, and no-one cared about religion anymore.

Dane's worries about where we are going as a civilization have clearly not dissipated as his new show tackles ambitious topics - religion, oil, drugs and money.

He has plenty to say, about human beings' need for escape, and what it is that makes a good person and a bad person. Dane also has thoughts on technology and religion - he comes from a Catholic background.

Dane recalls visiting Swindon earlier in his life too: he says he bought his first pair of Nike Air Max at the Outlet with the money he had saved from his paper round – so it has special place in his heart.

Described as "contemporary and relevant" by The Voice, and a "comical genius" by Edinburgh Festivals Magazine, Baptiste has appeared on 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (Channel 4), Mock the Week (BBC Two), Tonight at the London Palladium (ITV1) and Live from the BBC (BBC Two).

Tickets are £14.50. To book, call 01793 524481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
