YOUNGSTERS at Holy Trinity Primary in Great Cheverell have been getting really hands on with food production this year.
Head teacher Mercedes Henning explained: "On our school field, our children planted, grew, harvested, threshed, winnowed and ground wheat and then baked their own wheat into bread.
"It has been a really amazing project and has helped the children to understand a lot more about food production and farming.
"We were helped enormously by the Peplers, farmers at Ballards’ Farm in Edington, by Devizes Museum who lent us a 2000-year-old quern stone to grind our wheat, and by Liz Read who leads our Gardening club.
"Every child has benefited and has enjoyed watching the whole journey of wheat from tiny seed to warm loaf."
