The Agudo Dance Company brings a blend of Flamenco, Kathak and contemporary dance to a show called Silk Road at Swindon Dance on Friday.

Swindon Advertiser readers are invited to buy tickets for a special offer rate of £5, to see the dance performed with an evocative live score. Silk Road is a fascinating exploration of the rituals along nomadic routes. Choreographed by Jose Agudo, it conjures images of the pilgrims, monks, traders and urban dwellers who made their way from China to the Iberian Peninsula.

Jose Agudo began as a flamenco dancer before training in contemporary and Kathak dance and this is his first full length production drawing these influences together. It sees Agudo collaborating with renowned dance artist Mavin Khoo.

As a rehearsal director and assistant choreographer, Jose has worked on several creations for Akram Khan Company, including the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.

In 2011, Jose started to study Kathak under Akram’s guidance. Finding many parallels between this training and his early studies of Flamenco, Jose reconnected with his roots and began to explore traditional forms in a contemporary context. You can also find out more about Silk Road and meet the dancers at a post-show talk. The performance at Swindon Dance in Regent Circus starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £8-£11.
