AROUND 100 pupils from Rowdeford School took part in a seven-mile sponsored wheel and walk along the Kennet and Avon canal to raise money for Macmillan.

Although the school has always completed a walk for charity, this is the first time it has included wheelchairs in the event, at the end of September.

The change of the title is to recognise the inclusivity of the event.

At the same time the youngest members of the school ran their own Macmillan coffee morning, where parents and members of the public were treated to tea and cakes served by the students.

Mr Loveridge, headteacher at Rowdeford School, said: “The weather could not have been better and a record number of students and parents joined in.

“The walk demonstrated how the students use two of our core values, co-operation and for some students resilience.

“A great day was had by all and a big thank you to any members of the public who stopped to say hello to the students and helped them to practise their communication skills.”

The school has also recently held an apple day where pupils paid a visit to the school’s orchard where they picked, washed and sorted the apples in small teams.

Mr Loveridge said: “By the end of the day we had enough juice for everyone to taste in their tutor groups.

“The apples that didn’t make our apple day juice will be sent to a local juicer.”

The school has so far raised £1,200 and money is still coming in.
