PRE-SCHOOL pupils learned important lessons about safety after carrying out an inspection on their own school.

Mini safety inspectors at Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon reported damaged toys and equipment to staff at the nursery.

They also offered their teachers advice on how to get top marks in their inspection.

They looked at 78 different aspects of health and safety relating to children, food, and the pre-school environment.

In the end, the little ones gave the pre-school a 100 per cent mark.

Windmill Hill manager, Lora Worthington, said: “I’m delighted with the inspection result, though the real reward was the important lessons learned by the children.

“We are preparing children for mainstream schooling and beyond so it is important they are aware of their surroundings, their personal safety and that of others.

“It’s also important that they are confident about speaking out if there is a problem.”

Windmill Hill Day Nursery is part of the award-winning, employee-owned Childbase Partnership where the Health, Safety and Environment team of experts carry out regular unannounced audits in nurseries.
