MELKSHAM boss Kieran Baggs praised his side’s overall team performance following Saturday’s 3-2 win against Cinderford, a game which stretched Town’s unbeaten league run to seven games.

Three wins and four draws have left Baggs with little to question about his side in their first season as a non-league step four club, Melksham sitting sixth in the Southern League Division One South table with a game in hand over the majority of teams above them.

Jon Davies bagged a brace while Neikell Plummer was also on target - putting Melksham three goals ahead with five minutes remaining.

Two late goals for the visitors suddenly threw the three points into doubt, but it was a case of too little too late for Cinderford – who became the latest victims of Town’s remarkable run.

Baggs said: “Our unbeaten run isn’t something – as a manager – I pay too much attention to, especially as a newly-promoted side.

“However, it is always nice to read about it on social media.

“We’ve had a few draws so it’s not a perfect 100 per cent record, but we’ll take the unbeaten run for sure.

“It’s been a great start for the boys and they deserve all of the credit. We’ve had a lot of change in personal and formation, plus the level we’ve stepped up to.

“We’ve monitored fitness levels closely in training and they’ve embraced the new challenges. They deserve all the plaudits, and it’s a nice feeling for me.

“You’ve got to enjoy these moments in football, Saturday was the most pleasing performance – a perfect team performance – for 85 minutes.

“We did concede two late goals, but it was a comfortable win for us.

“That underlined the level we’re playing at now, if you switch off for five minutes then you will get punished. It was a good day in front of another strong crowd.”

Another strong attendance of 300 plus watched Melksham’s latest victory, something which Baggs believes has a positive impact on the players chosen to start.

While plenty of positives were taken from Saturday’s performance, Baggs did warn his side against complacency when two goals ahead in future fixtures.

He added: “I don’t think we’ve been below 300 for any league game, which is fantastic.

“It’s the town that always comes together, especially for big games like at the weekend.

“We were comfortable for 85 minutes and really did dominate the game.

“To concede two goals late on was disappointing, but it didn’t take the gloss off the game.

“Apart from the last five minutes it really was the perfect performance.

“We have to take lessons from that and make sure our levels don’t drop until the final whistle is blown.

“Some of the results we’ve picked up to start the season have been brilliant for a club like ours, hopefully we can continue this run for as long as possible.”

The Cinderford game was Andy Sandell's last, with the veteran striker rejoining National League South neighbours Chippenham Town after a month-long loan with Baggs' side.
