WILTSHIRE'S vlogger turned dancer Joe Sugg returned to his roots when the former apprentice thatcher took his Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Dianne Buswell to try her hand at the craft ready for Saturday night's performance.

One of Joe's biggest fans is his uncle Gary Sugg from Bromham, near Devizes, who was also his boss when the former Corsham School pupil wanted to learn the traditional roofing technique.

When Joe's participation in the show was announced in August his uncle said: "He showed very good balance when he was learning to thatch and hopefully that will stand him in good stead."

For this week's show Joe, who grew up in Lacock, took Ms Buswell to one of his uncle's projects in Wiltshire to get them both in the mood for their Charleston performance which had a thatching theme.

He seemed to surprise even himself with how well he did as he dressed in a flannel shirt and rhinestones against a set of a thatched house.

Judges Darcey Bussell, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and Shirley Ballas were all impressed and scored him 31 out of 40. as the YouTube star got a 31 out of 40.

The audience were equally charmed as he made it through to next week's show which will have a movie theme.

Bruno said: "Yeehaw! It was so charming and energetic, it was like watching a playful puppy. Seriously, it was inspired, it was original, a different interpretation of the Charleston and it worked a treat."

After the show Joe tweeted: "Wow.. just wow.. thanks so much for all your votes. We’re on to movie week now and I honestly can’t wait to show you all what we have in store for for ya."

Joe has also revealed that he had even given thatching advice to royalty. In May he was contacted by people working with Prince Charles and he agreed to meet the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall when they visited YouTube headquarters.

He gave the prince a quick lesson in thatching.
