WORKERS at a charity which supplies cut price furniture to people in need have been left devastated after callous thieves once again targeted their base.

More than 15 washing machines and other white goods were stolen from outside KFR on the Hopton Industrial Estate to the disgust of volunteer Thomas Green.

He said: "We have been targeted again. This time, the thieves must have used a vehicle. This affects our clients massively and our business as well.

"This crime as well as affecting the monetary side of the charity is hugely demoralising."

The thieves struck over the weekend of September 22 and 23 and it was discovered when workers turned up on the Monday morning.

Operation manager Dan Thompson was equally angry. He said: "Since the first instance we have been a little more savvy with the way we store our white goods waiting to be repaired.

"They are out of the view of the public but we are unable to lock the area up. We have looked at fencing this area off but that is a rather large cost we are unable to carry.

"If there is anyone out there that could do this for free that would be amazing. Failing that what we ideally need is local lockable dry storage to keep our feedstock of white goods."

He said that since news of the theft has spread in the town members of the public have come forward to make donations and express their anger.

Mr Thompson said: "We have been inundated with donations of white goods and would like to thank everyone who has donated."

He also thank neighbours Grants and Cardwave who allowed the charity to view their CCTV. He said: "We have identified three males driving a white transit van arriving on site at 12:42pm on Sunday September 23.

"The footage has been given to the Wiltshire Police force, who have been amazing, they are looking into it for us. From the looks of the CCTV the thieves new exactly what they were looking for and where to find it."

The charity has received backing from the Big Lottery awards to help it provide white goods for those in crisis.

Mr Thompson said: "This has been hampered slightly by the recent theft and we will be feeling the repercussions of this for a few weeks until we can get the required feedstock to engineer."
