AN OPTICIANS in Marlborough spent the day fundraising on September 21 in aid of the national Jeans for Genes Day charity campaign.
Staff from Specsavers on the High Street ditched their uniform for the day and made donations to wear jeans to work, raising funds Genetic Disorders UK.
Store director, Rachael King, said: “Jeans for Genes is always a great opportunity to have some fun in store and raise money for a great cause. We were delighted to be funding the wonderful work of this charity and believe that the money we raised will make a difference.
“We take part in this initiative every year and members of the community are always really supportive, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to our lovely, generous and loyal customers.”
Workplaces and schools across the country got involved by wearing jeans to raise awareness and money to support individuals and families affected by genetic disorders.
It is estimated that one in 25 children is affected by a genetic disorder. There are more than half a million people in the UK currently suffering from a genetic disorder and thousands of babies and children are newly diagnosed every year.
