FIRE destroyed a thatched cottage near Marlborough last night, as firefighters from across the county attempted to control the flames.
Plumes of smoke were visible as the home, a detached cottage in Manton Drove, Granham, Marlborough was destroyed.
11 Fire engines and an ariel ladder platform were at the scene overnight, after the initial 999 call was made at 7.23pm yesterday evening.
Firefighters were at the blaze into the early hours of the morning as they worked to put the fire out, and confirmed the fire had been put out at 2.49am.
Crews from Marlborough ware due to return to the scene this morning to make sure the area is safe and a full fire investigation has been launched by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service.
A spokesman confirmed that the upstairs level of the house and thatched roof has been destroyed and is uninhabitable.
