A pre-school near Devizes was on to a winner when it held a horse racing night to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance in memory of a colleague.

Lavington Pre-School chose the air ambulance as its charity of the year after it was sent to try and help colleague Rebecca Gray after she was taken ill in February and was flown to hospital in Bournemouth.

Pre-school manager Julie Langlands said: "Thanks to our wonderful children, parents, staff and friends' support, I’m touched that we have been able to help this incredible local charity who is very close to our hearts. We have raised the money in memory of Rebecca.

"We chose to support Wiltshire Air Ambulance for the amazing work they do keeping our community safe. Sadly, in February this year we lost our pre-school colleague and dear friend Rebecca Gray. Wiltshire Air Ambulance were on the scene to assist her as they are with so many people in our area each year."

Now a cheque for £825 has been presented to the charity after the race night held at The Churchill Arms raised a total of £1,650. The other half of the proceeds has gone to the nursery's funds.

Lavington Pre-School has been going strong for more than 20 years and since 2009 has had its own base in West Lavington.

The pre-school is a charity run organisation offering child care for young children from Lavington and surrounding villages.
