PEOPLE young and old were fascinated by country pursuits as Wiltshire Wildlife Trust showed there could be rural fun no matter what the weather.

Hardy families braved the rain on Saturday to enjoy this year's Country Comes To town in Devizes Market Place.

They were able to join in a wide range of country pursuits and find out more about the charity's work to safeguard wildlife and habitats in Wiltshire.

Birds of prey always draw a big crowd to their enclosure and it was no different on Saturday when Phil Lotts from Walks With Hawks introduced his birds to visitors. Among them was Reg the Harris Hawk.

Animals from the trust's farms in Oaksey and Coombe Bissett also attracted plenty of admirers as people petted the Herdwick sheep and Belted Galloway cattle.

Among those exhibiting were the Wiltshire Bee Company and Meadow In My Garden. Kiara Linsday-Cooke showed visitors how honey was made and people could buy their own jars to take home.

Dugald McNaughtan, head of fundraising and communications said: “Country Comes to Town is a fantastic free day out for all the family. We welcomed visitors of all ages to Devizes, to have fun and learn more about the valuable work that Wiltshire Wildlife Trust does across the county.”
