CYCLE challenge for Ramsbury man, Pete Willetts, as he embarks on his latest marathon cycle ride.

Mr Willetts is being accompanied on the challenge with friend and cycling partner, Steve Tippins, as they set off yesterday, September 17. They are cycling the length of Ireland with a demanding journey from its most Southern point at Mizen Head to its most Northern tip of Malin Head, totalling 500 miles in only six days.

The motivation behind Pete’s ride is to raise money for the two charities, Action Through Enterprise (ATE) and Stroke Association.

ATE is run by a former Newbury primary school teacher who works to improve the lives of people in Upper West Ghana through important projects. Mr Willett became involved with the organisation in October 2016 as a trustee.

Unfortunately, the cyclists have so far had severe weathers to battle through and so only made the ferry from the M4 by the skin of their teeth. A smoother flight to Cork was then completed and he set off again through very blustery weathers and hilly rides to Kenmare.

Mr Willetts and Mr Tippins now plan to complete 80 miles by the end of today, September 18, through to Kilrush.

The challenge has so far raised £1, 699 for the two charities. To sponsor him, visit https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/peterwilletts1
