A chip pan sparked a fire in Calne this morning - causing extensive damage to a house.
Fire crews were called to Landsdown Close after neighbours saw smoke billowing from the windows of the property.
Although neighbours managed to extinguish the blaze the house was filled with dense smoke when fire crews arrived.
The occupier of the house, who was not at home when the fire started, was too shaken to speak to The Gazette.
Dave Jacomb, of Chippenham Fire Service, said: "The blaze has caused extensive damage to the property including substantial damage to the kitchen area and walls."
It is believed workmen working at the house accidentally placed tools near the left on chip pan.
Fire crews are not treating the fire as suspicious.
No one was injured in the blaze.
