RESIDENTS and councillors from Malmesbury and its twin town of Niebull in Germany visited Salisbury to show solidarity.

They were welcomed to the city on September 2 by Mayor of Salisbury Cllr Mike Osment on the steps of the city’s Guild Hall.

Mayor of Malmesbury Cllr Fran Vandelli and Wiltshire Councillor Gavin Grant also attended.

Cllr Vandelli, said: “It was an honour to be welcomed by my fellow Mayor and to walk through the city with both of us proudly wearing our chains of office.”

Cllr Osment, said: “We were pleased to welcome Malmesbury residents and their German guests to Salisbury.

“They saw for themselves that out beautiful city is very welcoming of visitors and is getting back to business.”

Among the guests from Germany was Niebull town councillor Anja Cornel, she said: “We had not been to Salisbury before. It is lovely just like Malmesbury but bigger.

“We were all shocked in Germany by what happened but it is good to see people enjoying themselves there.”

Cllr Gavin Grant added: “It was a great visit to show that we will not be intimidated.”

The Chair of Malmesbury’s Town Twinning Association, Julia Bowen said “I asked our German visitors before they came if they were happy to come to Salisbury and encouraged them to do so. It has been a delightful visit.”
