CHIPPENHAM Pit Stop, just off Junction 17 of the M4 is raising awareness of high blood pressure as part of a national health campaign.

Next Tuesday (September 11), drivers and the local community are invited to the Pit Stop to have their blood pressure taken for free as part of the UK Blood Pressure Campaign's Know Your Numbers week.

High blood pressure contributes to half of all heart attacks in the UK.

The Pit Stop's health campaign's coordinator Lisa Hatherell said spending long hours behind a wheel all day and every day was not conductive to a healthy lifestyle so it was important that truck drivers were aware of their blood pressure.

"This is not just for drivers, it is for local people as well," she added.

"Anyone having their blood pressure taken on our special day will be given a voucher to exchange for a tea or coffee in our restaurant.

"While the Know Your Numbers campaign is only for a week, we shall continue our contribution for the whole of September by displaying posters for all our customers to see.

Health trainers will be on site from 10am until 4pm next Tuesday.
