THE Great Western public house in Corsham has closed for a £290,000 refurbishment.

It is expected to re-open again in a few weeks’ time with a new look designed to broaden its appeal.

It may even get a new name - its owner Star Pubs & Bars refers to the pub as The Wily Fox on its website.

The company said: “The Great Western has closed in anticipation of a major refurbishment due to start in September designed to broaden the pub’s appeal.

“A new licensee will be taking on the pub following the refurbishment.”

The pub in Pound Pill has a catchment of 26,000 residents living within a ten-minute drive.

The refurbishment will include installing a new kitchen, complete redecoration, refurbishing the drinking terrace and adding a new conservatory extension able to seat 20 diners.

On its website, Star Pubs & Bars says: “An extensive refurbishment will transform the Great Western into a premium, English village pub.”

The company says its location close to Corsham town centre makes it the perfect location for a quality pub with a great food offering.
