HUNDREDS of people flocked to Devizes Market Place on Wednesday evening for an evening to remember as clowns took to the high wire.

As usual there was fun and frolics after the cannons sounded and huge amounts of coloured paper descended in the darkness over the town centre.

People of all ages joined in the spectacular event throwing hadfulls of confetti and their friends and family.

But an added twist this year meant the Pickled Image clowns put on their own show as they tried to make a great escape in their own particular way.

They were high above the crowds on a wire suspended over the Market Place and people oohed and ahhed as it appeared they may fall.

Earlier in the evening brave competitors took part in the Colour Rush which was staged in the town for the second year running.

Intrepid runners met at Green Lane Playing Fields and had to brave the colour stations where they were bombarded with dried paint.

They were back at the finish line in the Market Place ready for the battle to commence.

Both events were organised by Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts and artistic director Loz Samuels was delighted with the evening. She said: "It has been fantastic fun. I am so grateful to everyone who has made it possible."
