A MUM has given a big thank you to Corsham firefighters who freed her trapped daughter.

The burly rescue crew used copious amounts of washing up liquid and brute strength to free Ava Rogers, after the five-year-old got stuck between a banister and a wall shortly after 6pm on August 20.

The Corsham crew rushed round to Lorna Rogers’ home in Hatton Way within two minutes of receiving her emergency call.

Within minutes they had freed the trapped youngster, whose right arm had got stuck behind her back.

Lorna, who also has a son Harry, three, said: “Ava just loves climbing and got stuck between the bannister and the wall at the bottom of the stairs.

“I tried to get her out but it was just not happening.

“I called the fire and rescue service when I noticed her right arm had started to turn purple.

“The crew were really amazing and calmed her down. They got her out within minutes.

“We’re ever so grateful to them for coming out as quickly as they did.”

Corsham watch manager Mark Unwin said: “Luckily, we had just returned from a hedge fire so we were able to get there within two minutes.

“The little girl had managed to get between the wooden bannister and the wall and then slipped.

“She could not get her arm back round to free herself and got severely stuck.”

“The mother had tried to free her with some washing up liquid but didn’t use enough.

“We used copious amounts of washing up liquid and completely covered her with it.

“Three of the crew applied some pressure to the bannister, which gave a little. We were able to free the girl within five minutes of arriving and then handed her over to the paramedics to check over.”
