A DEALER found with hundreds of pounds worth of heroin and crack cocaine in his underpants has been jailed for three years.

John Kalema was recognised by drugs squad cops in Chippenham town centre. As they arrested him he asked them: 'What's the sentence for someone who has got 50 wraps?'.

When he was searched the 27-year-old was also found to have the dealer phone on him which revealed what he had been up to.

Rob Welling, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court how PC Joe Shanklin spotted the defendant near The Bridge Centre on August 31, 2016.

He suspected he was carrying out a deal and followed him towards town, where he was later arrested and after telling police 'OK boys, you got me,' he asked what he was facing.

At the police station he was searched and found to have 18 wraps of heroin and 28 of crack cocaine in his underwear, each retailing at £10 so worth £460 on the streets.

As well as £60 in cash he also had a mobile which, when examined, was found to be littered with messages relating to the trade in drugs.

Police released him on bail so the drugs and phone could be analysed and he failed to surrender to police until he was caught for other matters in the Essex area.

Kalema, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

He was jailed for three years in May after carrying out a frenzied assault on a woman who spurned him in a nightclub in Clacton.

Jon Harrison, defending, said that soon after the drugs arrest his client had served a jail term for unpaid fines and after his release was told there was nothing outstanding against him.

Since then he said that he had also been before the courts twice for simple possession of drugs and the warrant out against him was not picked up.

"He not have a great start in life and is a product of the care system, but at 27 has left that some way far behind," he said.

Jailing him Judge Jason Taylor QC said "You were clearly playing an operational function, you had the dealer line. You were motivated by money."

Passing a three year jail term he said it would be concurrent to the current sentence, meaning Kalema will only serve another four months inside.
