WATCH manager Mark Unwin is stepping down this month after a 39-year career at Corsham Fire Station.
The 16-strong Corsham crews are split into two watches and man two appliances.
After August 29, Mr Unwin will focus on his main role as an operational resources manager with Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Fifty-seven-year-old Mark said: “At my age, the fitness tests are getting harder to pass.
“I’m still having to do the same tests as an 18-year-old and it’s getting a little bit harder every year.”
Mr Unwin has lived in Corsham all his life, and says “I’ve moved closer and closer to the fire station.”
He added: “This month has been one of the busiest months ever, with 84 call-outs so far.”
Mr Unwin plans to spend more time with his wife, Susan, their two sons Gareth and Matthew, and two grandchildren, Sophia and Charlie.
