A RETIRED company director from Devizes took his own life after suffering from depression and worrying about money, an inquest in Salisbury was told on Wednesday (July 25).

Maxwell Thomas King, 77, was found on April 11 by his wife Angela and daughter Maxine at their home in Hopgood Close, Devizes.

The assistant coroner for Wiltshire and Swindon, Ian Singleton, read out statements from Mrs King which disclosed her husband of 36 years had left behind a note.

Mrs King said she and paramedics tried desperately to revive Mr King but all attempts failed.

Mr King had resigned in March as chairman of his local social club in Devizes.

Returning a verdict of suicide, Mr Singleton said Mr King had died from strangulation and heart disease. The note indicated he intended to take his own life.
