Obituary: Roger Lawn

Roger William Lawn, 72, a Londoner who settled in Wootton Bassett in 1969, was a former secretary of Wootton Bassett Conservative Club and a founder member of the Golf Club at Vastern. After a career with Prudential Insurance, he worked in retirement at Homebase.

He and his wife Rosemary, also from London, have two daughters, Marcia and Melanie, and five grandchildren, some of whom live locally.

Mr Lawn, who enjoyed snooker and darts, was a rock 'n' roll fan whose favourite stars - Queen and The Rolling Stones - were represented in the choice of farewell music: I Want to Break Free and Miss You. The hymn Abide With Me was also included in the service.

He loved the countryside and was a keen walker who relished holidays in the Yorkshire Dales. Sadly, his health deteriorated during the last two years of his life, after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

After the funeral, which took place at Kingsdown Crematorium on May 31, family and friends shared reminiscences and refreshments at The Bolingbroke Arms, Hook. Memorial donations will benefit the Alzheimer's Society.
