Son Yambu – Devizes Corn Exchange

As the doors opened and the seats started to fill there were people on the dance floor practicing their moves. We knew that we were going to have a party, and Devizes partied all evening.

Son Yambu arrived on stage and the rhythm was pumped up from the word go. They played their irresistible Son Cubano - a fusion of Spanish and African rhythms - the root of all salsa music.

It didn’t feel like Devizes on a Saturday night; it felt like we were in a truly authentic South American club. The floor was full all evening as people danced – it didn’t matter that we couldn’t salsa, the music made you want to dance.

The band feature a new generation of Cuban musicians who are all passionate about maintaining the traditions of the Son Cubano genre, continuing the Buena Vista legacy. They are regulars at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and the Jazz Café – as well as regularly touring the UK.

We thank them for bringing their wonderful music to Devizes and giving us all a great night to remember.
