ST JOHN Ambulance is recruiting new first aid volunteers for its teams across the north and west of Wiltshire.

The charity is preparing for a busy summer, providing medical cover at events in the county and further afield.

Volunteer Kevin Dickens, 32, of Calne joined after taking part in a first aid course at work. He said: “I knew I wanted to do some volunteering in the community so I found that being a first responder worked well.

“You can’t anticipate what might happen and sometimes things catch you by surprise but the volunteering team around you will always help. We have people who have been with St John’s for years and have dealt with pretty much everything. They give support especially to new people.

“It is immensely rewarding and you don’t just learn first aid you learn lots of other skills.

New volunteers, keen to support their communities, are needed in Swindon, Chippenham, Corsham, Melksham and Pewsey.
