MARSHFIELD eased their relegation worries with a first win since June on Saturday, much to the relief of their captain.

James Williams' side had not won since beating Swindon over two months ago, and sit one place and ten points above the drop zone and rivals Marlborough.

"It is obviously not nice being down that end of the table because you always have one eye on relegation and I think people were getting a bit concerned," said Williams.

Bobby Jenkins hit 74 with Williams top scoring on 79 as Rupert Crockett (20) and Grant Trewartha (16) contributed in the lower order.

Williams (4-38) was the pick of the bowlers but he reserved special praise for Ben White's (3-58) performance.

"Ben has been fantastic with the ball every week. It is so easy to set a field for him because he puts the ball in the same place every time," he said.

Two run outs helped Marshfield's cause with Jamil Khalil taking the final wicket as Swindon threatened to win.

"The closer the games the better because you do not go into the next game thinking you are going to roll the team over," said Williams.

To make the win over title chasing Swindon more impressive they did it without South African batsman Seate Latshele, who has left the club.

"He was not particularly good for morale, he was undermining the team a little but was a fantastic cricketer," said Williams.

"He hadn't really settled into how we do things but it was good to show people we can win without him and are not just a one man team."

Williams is now looking ahead to their final three games of the season, starting at home to Gloucester City Winget on Saturday.

He said: "We want to get as many points as we can and getting 20 on Saturday is massive. It was great to bowl them out but also to get the five batting points for passing 225.

"We have been consistent in the last few games and hopefully we can carry on improving until the end."
