THERE was no happy return to Bridgwater for Corsham captain Michael Coles on Saturday, and he admitted his team could now be drawn into a relegation battle.

Corsham sit sixth in Premier One with fourth the best they can seemingly hope for in a disappointing season for a team who were seen as one of the title favourites at the start of the campaign.

But the captain realises they are still too close to the relegation zone.

He said: "I don't know if we are looking over our shoulders but we are aware of the situation behind us," said Coles.

"We know if results go against us we could potentially be dragged in."

They fell to another defeat despite Richard Foley (2-29) and Jason Searle's (1-42) best efforts with the hosts certainly setting a score Corsham could attack.

But they were soon struggling on 30-3 although Alex Senneck (35), Richard Foley (42) and Coles (27) rallied to give a glimmer of hope.

"It was only in the last three or four overs we managed to get to it because we scored 35 to 40 runs in them," he said.

"We had them under the cosh a little bit but we didn't field particularly well and unfortunately it was one of those days."

Coles will be hoping for a better performance when they entertain Keynsham at Station Road on Saturday.

"We have identified it as a game we can win," he said. "We are at home and for some reason we play much better cricket there."
