SUNNY days in Honeystreet have arrived just in time as work begins on a new café on the canal in the village.

The pair have run furnishings store India Shop together for two decades and will now transform the warehouse part of the shop into a cafe.

The Honeystreet Mill Café will open on the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal in Honeystreet and sell produce sourced locally in an a sustainable way.

Mother and son duo Anne and John Wyles hope to increase employment in the area as they seek out new chefs, baristas and waiting staff to run the family friendly café.

Mr Wyles, from Stanton St Bernard, also runs boat holiday company Honeystreet Boats, and said: “Our focus will be on delicious, fresh, and local food to promote all that is best in the beautiful environment of the Pewsey Vale. We are employing local tradespeople to carry out the works, to create a warm and welcoming café space.

"Customers will be able to choose to visit us for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea with the option of treating themselves to a chilled glass of prosecco on our terrace, as they watch the world go by Wiltshire-style!”

As the owners begin to turn their vision into a reality they are exploring the history of the site, which was used by the RAF during World War II.

Ms Wyles said:”There are clues to the site’s history when you start looking, the slope for boatbuilding, the tell-tale RAF blue used on the rafters of one building, and the buttons visible in the surface of our visitor car parking space.

“We are really keen to tell customers the biography of the site as we open a new chapter in its history. Anyone with local knowledge should feel free to get in touch on our Facebook account Honeystreet Mill Café.”

The cafe gained unanimous support from the parish council and has received the green light from Wiltshire Council. The cafe is set to open at the end of June.
