THE story of how a jewellery maker struggled through school and went on to create a successful business has been accepted to appear in an inspirational book all about mums in business.

Tamara Eggleston, who creates Barking Hen Jewellery from her back garden in Chippenham, began as a jeweller and designer 20 years ago.

The mother-of-two's story about trusting in creative instinct despite not being an academic student appears in Mumpreneur on Fire 2, written by Estelle Keeber.

“I struggled academically through school working extremely hard for pretty average grades," Mrs Eggleston said. "I didn’t know jewellery design was even something people did when I was 14 years old.

"In my story I tell how I persevered to follow my creative instincts and set up my first business aged 21 in Somerset.

"I feel the current curriculum in schools is cutting back on the creative subjects so it can be very demoralising if you don’t fit into that 'academic' category. There are still plenty of creative careers to pursue out there so if I can help just one person find their niche, my story was worth telling.”

Mumpreneur on Fire 2 is available to purchase on Amazon now and Barking Hen Jewellery will soon be on sale at the new shop in Chippenham Museum.
