DEVIZES school was open as usual today (Tue) after electricity engineers managed to repair a fault which meant children were sent home yesterday lunchtime.

A problem at a sub station meant there was no power or running water in many parts of the school.

The school was advised to close and contacted parents to ask them to collect their children from 12.40pm.

A spokesman for the school said: "Students are not at risk but are being asked to contact home to make arrangements to get home. If this is not possible students will be supervised and kept safe until parents can be contacted and transport arranged up until the end of the day.

"There are no phone lines working at present. We are expecting to lose all power later today while essential maintenance is carried out."

A year 11 parents evening due to be held yesterday evening was cancelled.

A spokesman for energy company SSE said they were called to the school yesterday morning and found that one of four cables from the sub station to the school was faulty. Its engineers managed to repair the damage.

The spokesman said: "The problems are confined to the school."
