CAPTAIN Michael Coles led by example as Corsham produced one of their best displays of the season on Saturday.

It has been an inconsistent campaign for the Station Road outfit, whose expected challenge for the Premier One title has never materialised.

But Coles demonstrated the potential of the team with a crushing 106 not out off just 101 balls, a century which included nine fours and six sixes.

He said: "It was my first for Corsham in the league and was very special.

"It was quite slow and I only reached 50 with eight or nine overs to go. They then brought their seamers back on which was a lot easier so I targeted the short boundaries."

The win gave Coles a massive sense of relief after their unpredictable campaign.

"We have been close to winning other games and a couple more would have seen us second or third," he said.

"In some, we have just not been able to find the last couple of wickets, have had bad decisions or been affected by the weather."

There were no such problems at the weekend as Rob Shillaker hit 47 with Tom Hankins (27), Richard Foley (26) and Pete Dennett (20) ensuring all of Corsham's top five batsmen reached double figures.

Coles said: "We changed the order a little as Tom, who has not been in the best of form, went to number four so he didn't have to experience the new ball, which gave us the platform to attack."

With an imposing total set, Corsham's bowlers impressed as Cheltenham failed to deal with them.

Jason Searle (4-51), Foley (3-38), Alex Senneck (1-46), and Craig Chaplin (1-0) easily dismissed the struggling Gloucestershire side.

Coles now goes to his old side Bridgewater on Saturday looking for a repeat of the 35-run win earlier in the season.

He said: "We are going down there full of confidence - but it is a difficult place to go. I know after playing there for five years."
