A Calne school is aiming to be one step ahead when it comes to teaching its pupils how to stay safe when using the internet.
Pupils at St Margaret’s Preparatory School took part in a global day aimed at warning children of the dangers that can lurk on the web. Head of Computing Mike Callahan said: “The school once again took part in Safer Internet Day which this year had the slogan ‘create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you.”
To help raise awareness of what behaviour on the internet can have a positive effect and what can have a negative influence the children rated comments left on social media.
Mr Callahan said: “One of the activities that the pupils worked on was using an imaginary thermometer to record the different things other people do online that make you feel most happy or least happy.
"It’s not only about presenting our children with facts; it’s about working alongside them and developing appropriate attitudes. Technology and all that comes with it will continue to advance at a rapid rate and it is essential we stay one step ahead.”
