MARSHFIELD were crushed on Saturday, leaving captain James Williams admitting for the first time they are in a relegation battle.

They haven't won since beating Swindon at the start of June and a shocking batting display, apart from Seate Latshele's 65, saw them crumble for just 97.

Williams, Bobby Jenkins, Daniel Watson and Jake Ticehurst were all out without scoring as Wayne Pascal was the second top scorer with just nine.

"It was massive for us and if you look at our last two home games, they were against the bottom two (Hatherley and Marlborough), and we lost them both," said Williams, who sees his side just one place above the drop zone.

"It will be between the three teams at the bottom, including us, and I still believe Lydney will be in the mix too.

"We have to go there on the last day of the season and hopefully we will not have to win to stay up."

The skipper admitted even he didn't have the fight left to deliver a rocket to his team for their dreadful performance, which saw Ben White 2-31 and Pascal 1-14 claim the three wickets.

He said: "There wasn't a great deal which could be said. We recognised it was a pretty awful performance and something needs to be done but I didn't really want to go off my head at them."
