PUPILS from Lawn Manor Academy have been put through their paces learning about life on a farm as part of a six week programme aimed at boosting their confidence and team building skills.

Get INTUNE is a local enrichment programme which uses the outdoor environment to offer a back-to-basics experience of utilising the natural environment for pupils to develop new, transferable skills which focus on personal and group development.

For six weeks, a group of six girls and boys from Year 9 visited Hinton Marsh Farm where they completed a variety of tasks that Bear Grylls would be proud of, including communication and team work.

From creating an obstacle course to learning how to make a homemade pizza oven in the woods, and even building a den, the students all took away a set of skills they never thought they’d have the chance to learn.

Lawn Manor’s library officer Rachel Reynolds accompanied the pupils on the trip and said she was amazed by how well they got on.

She said: “Over the course some real leaders shone through, you could also see them all growing in confidence and their communication skills grew over the six week course as they learnt to develop their team building skills.”

Luke Chambers, who coordinates the Get INTUNE programme, said: “Both groups have been amazing as they have shown great leadership and team working skills throughout.

“The farm and woodland environment has provided them with plenty of learning opportunities to try out new things outside their comfort zone and develop life skills.”
