A TRIATHLETE who wrote a book about being diagnosed with a brain tumour and competing for Team GB over 12 months held a book signing in Trowbridge.

Rachel Bown, 47, was invited by her fellow Trowbridge Cycling Club member Lisa McKeaveney to bring copies of her book, The Butterfly Within: A Triathlete's Race Against a Brain Tumour, to Sportsbug - Lisa's workplace.

On top of selling a few copies of the book, the paralympic athlete, of Magnolia Rise, enjoyed a good natter with her friend.

"It was the first time I have done a book signing in Trowbridge and it was a really fun day," said Mrs Bown, who lost vision in her right eye following an operation during her treatment.

"The book is basically a diary of me being diagnosed with the tumour in June 2015 and me racing 12 months later in Geneva in the European Championships.

"I am really proud of the book and the feedback has been great. It was published last year but Lisa invited me down for a book signing which was really worth it.

"I am writing a sequel to that book and I would like to talk about my career as an athlete and teaching in schools, among other things."

Mrs Mckeaveney added: "It was lovely to host her. I didn't know of her story but I do now - she is very inspiring. She is a tough cookie who has been through a lot. I have already bought a copy."
