THE driver of a black BMW 520D who collided with the central barrier on the M4 westbound between Junction 16 (Swindon West/Marlborough) and Junction 17 (Chippenham/Cirencester) yesterday (Friday, October 20) has died.
Firefighters from Westlea and Swindon found a car on its roof with one man hurt when they arrived.
The 66-year-old man was treated at the scene and taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary but sadly died a short time later.
The road was closed for four hours to allow police to carry out an investigation.
Police are appealing for witnesses and for anyone who was travelling eastbound who may have caught dash cam footage of the crash to come forward.
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
