A SERIES of behind the scene glimpses at the world's oldest steam driven beam engine will be on offer throughout the winter months at Crofton Beam Engines.

For the next three months the site, run by the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, will open its doors once a month to show what is done to maintain and protect the working beam engine over the winter months.

This month over half a million pounds of National Lottery funding was awarded to Crofton Beam Engines. The Heritage Lottery Funding will go towards a £845,000 project to overhaul and conserve the engines.

The open days will be free and run from 10am-3pm on October 21, November 18 and December 2.
