PEOPLE from Malmesbury and beyond ditched their everyday attire to take part in the popular Malmesbury Carnival procession dressed up as everything from Romans and mime artists, to little trolls on Saturday.

The sun appeared from behind the clouds as crowds of people gathered to watch the procession of walkers, dancers and floats make their way around the town.

Chairman of the Malmesbury Carnival committee Deborah Clogg said: “It went really well I think, we had some positive feedback, and the weather was much kinder than last year!”

“All together we had 14 walking and five floats,” she explained. “That was lovely as we wanted to encourage entries, and some people were worried about getting something to put the float on, so we said just dress up and walk, that can be just as much fun.”

Community groups and families donned weird and wonderful costumes and props as they entertained crowds who lined the streets.

This year saw members of the Athelstan Museum dressed as Romans with a big pot of money, children dressed as troll dolls from the film Trolls, and a family dressed as characters from the Super Mario games with a decorated tricycle.

Members of the procession carried buckets which money was thrown into by crowds who gathered, and children were given fishing nets to catch money thrown their way.

The committee worked tirelessly to prepare for the carnival and the procession.

Ms Clogg said: “Thank you to the carnival committee who work their socks off all year.”

Residents of Malmesbury have been invited by the committee to have their say on what they would like to see during the carnival in the future.
