A LORRY became stuck under the bridge on Wootton Bassett Road, closing the A3102 for a short time this morning.

The lorry struck the bridge before 10am with delays caused as the road was shut while it was moved.

Thamesdown Transport buses heading in to Swindon were being diverted via Great Western Way and Penzance Drive but services were said to be running normally.

Network rail confirmed that the incident had resulted in trains being delayed by an hour while workmen were sent to investigate.

A spokesman from Network Rail said: “We were informed of the road closure at 9.18am and normal work was resumed at 9.45am. The incident caused a total of 58 delay minutes spread across six trains.”

The company described the 25 minute inspection as “a very quick turnaround”.

Wiltshire Police did not want to comment on the incident.
