A by-election in north ward Devizes, caused by the resignation of Nay Britton just days after the council elections in May, is to be held on August 3.
Mrs Britton, who stood in the town council election for the Devizes Guardians under her maiden name of Smith in memory of her father former Mayor Pete Smith, was found to be in breach of election law as in 2015 she was given a four month suspended prison sentence which disqualified her from standing.
The by-election was sparked after at least ten people living in north ward asked for a poll to be held. It is expected that the Guardians, Conservatives and Labour parties will field candidates. Former Conservative councillor John Parker lost his seat in May after finishing 36 votes behind Mrs Britton.
