GOLD medal Paralympic swimmer Stephanie Millward swapped the pool for the fairways as she practised her swing at Chippenham Golf Club in preparation for a charity golf day.
The 35-year-old, who suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), will raise money to fight the condition through the charity golf day at the Kingsnorth Golf Club on May 28.
MS is a neurological condition which effects the nervous system throughout a person’s body and where nerves in the spinal cord and brain are damaged which limits movement.
“I was asked by Kingsnorth Golf Club to come along to their Charity Golf Day raising money for MS as an inspirational after-lunch speaker,” said the Paralympian.
“And I thought ‘this is such a worthy charity, why don’t I compete? It was only when I spoke to my husband, who loves golf that I realised it might not be as easy as that”.
Claire Burrows, ladies professional at the Wiltshire club, has been getting the swimmer into the swing of things who so far has only had five lessons.
She said: “Steph’s positive attitude and determination to succeed has been so apparent throughout her lessons and she already is ahead of schedule.
“I have no doubt Stephanie will surprise everyone on the day, I have been by invited by Steph to attend the day and will be supporting her throughout.
“It really is a massive commitment to try and learn the game in such a short space of time but I have every confidence in her.”
