STAFF at Leykers Coffee Shop in Trowbridge have swapped their aprons for hammers to finish off renovation works.

Tracy Parker, who owns Leykers with her husband Graham, decided to take matters into her own hands after being let down by the builders who were supposed to be renovating the cafe in White Hart Yard.

The cafe has been closed since March 25 and Mr and Mrs Parker are hoping to have most of the work finished by April 10.

“We've had an electrician and other traders in to do the technical work but me and the girls have pulled together to help renovate the inside. Instead of having their holiday the girls decided to come in and help us. We treat them well when we are at work so this is them reciprocating that, which is lovely,” Mrs Parker said.

"I have never done work like this before and neither have the girls. They have put tiling down and sanded the stairs – they've worked really hard. I feel as if the girls here aren’t just members of staff but also part of the family,” she added.

The cafe is scheduled to open again on Monday (April 10) for drinks but Mrs Parker and the team still have some finishing touches to do before reopening fully.

“We have had customers knocking on the door since we closed, waiting to see when they may be able to come back in as they have had to go to other places. I am really pleased with how it has all gone since we decided to do this.”

“There are still a few things we need to do but I am hoping to be opened properly by the middle of next week."

Mrs Parker is excited about the reopening Leykers and hopes the coffee shop will still be a firm favourite in the town.

“My parents used to be publicans and my family has owned businesses in the town for a long time. We have been here at Leykers for 17 years so there is a lot of history here for us.

"The shop decorations will reference the town's history. It is going to look really good,” she added.
