THE story of the day two escaped lions went walkabout in Devizes School is to be retold on national TV tomorrow (Friday) when highlights of the Graham Norton Show are shown.

The one-off special called Graham Norton's Big Red Chair will air at 10:35 pm on BBC1 and include the best bits of previous shows.

One of the segments covered will be the story of the the day in April, 1980, that the lions escaped from Chipperfields circus on The Green and ended up terrorising the school.

Karen Sims who now looks after finance and PR for the school is particularly pleased as she was one of the pupils at the school on that day.

She said: "We have had confirmation from the TV company who make the Graham Norton Show that our escaped lions story will definitely be one included in the special red chair revisited show.

"Should be interesting to hear the story again."

Last year the story was also told when Antiques Roadshow cameras visited Bowood and an original cartoon by Jacs of the lions, which hangs in the school, went on show.
