STAFF and pupils at a village school are celebrating after being told they are one of the highest performing primaries in the south west.

Mercedes Henning head at Holy Trinity in Great Cheverell, near Devizes, has received a letter from Rebecca Clark the regional schools commissioner to let them know that their provisional key stage two SATs results mark them out as among the best.

She wrote: "It is impressive to be able to reflect on the standards you have achieved."

Mrs Henning was delighted to receive the accolade. She said: "The regional schools commissioner is in charge of every Multi Academy Trust and stand-alone academy in the west country, all the way down to Cornwall.

"She has written to say that we are one of the highest performing schools in the region. This is another great tribute to the immense efforts of our outstanding staff, hardworking children, committed governors and engaged families. I am so proud of our team."

Holy Trinity and four other village primaries near Devizes formed a collaboration earlier in the year in a bid to drive up results and to share resources.

At the time Mrs Henning said: "The schools will strive for ever-improving outcomes for children, in all areas of learning." The other primaries in the Emmanuel Collaboration are Five Lanes at Potterne and Worton, St Barnabas at Market Lavington, St Thomas a Beckett at Tilshead and Urchfont Primary.
