FIRSTLY a comment to my near neighbour about the state of the footpaths in Farleigh Close.
The footpaths have been brought to the attention of Wiltshire Council who have visited several times over recent years and stated that the paths did not need doing.
They did not have the finances available for such a repair and also the whole of Queens Crescent estate is in need of proper maintenance to the footpaths and roads which are coming up to 50 years old.
In that time they have had no proper maintenance, only a dressing on the road that only covers the cracks and that has only been twice to my knowledge.
Secondly, in response to the other letter about a £10m possible overspend by Wiltshire Council in this financial year, it’s time that this council stopped spending taxpayers’ money unwisely on unnecessary projects like demolishing the Bridge Centre in Chippenham, apparently soon to be a council car park, and the demolition of the Redlands site, which was supposed to be for housing but is not yet sold.
I think that there are probably more sites across Wiltshire that have been demolished at taxpayers’ expense on a whim from some council manager or councillor.
Given the cost of demolition and site clearance I don’t think this should be a financial priority in these austere times of cuts to the services for the taxpayer.
As I see it our councillors and the managers seem to be flushed with taxpayers’ money to waste. Perhaps that’s the reason they have the initials WC.
