A WARNING has been issued by police ahead of the Christmas period for people to keep an eye on their belongings when shopping.
The appeal for vigilance comes after a 79-year-old Chippenham man had his wallet stolen from his jacket pocket while shopping in the British Heart Foundation shop on the High Street.
The incident happened sometime between 12-12.45pm last Thursday (November 24).
A police spokesperson said: “Unfortunately at this time of year in the run up to Christmas we see an increase in pick-pocketing in Chippenham town centre.
“They often target the distracted, elderly or otherwise vulnerable as they see them as easy targets.
“Please can we urge people to keep their belongings safe and ensure their friends and family do the same.”
Anyone with information on the incident should call 101.
